An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale shook Solomon Sea on Thursday morning, according to a bulletin released by the Hong Kong Observatory.
The quake occurred at 11:01 Hong Kong time (0301 GMT). The epicenter was initially determined to be over Solomon Sea at 8.0 degrees south latitude and 154.5 degrees east longitude, about 620 kilometers west-northwest of Honiara, Solomon Islands.
There was no immediate report of casualty.
