Senior pilots of Biman Bangladesh Airlines are leaving the airlines seeking jobs in foreign airlines, as the government has planned to turn the problem-ridden airline into a public limited company (PLC).

Senior pilots are leaving because they are suffering from uncertainty. They don't know what will happen to their fate in the future, one of the senior pilots Imran Mazid told Xinhua Friday.

He said, many of his colleagues are looking for jobs in airlines of other countries. This may put Biman into serious trouble in future, as junior pilots are not able to fly the wide- bodied crafts.

In this case, Biman might face the shortage of pilots to fly the fleets, Mazid said.

The current caretaker administration has planned to make Biman a PLC from July 1 as the airlines suffers loss of billions of taka (1 U.S. dollar equals 70 taka) annually. But Adviser of Civil Aviation MA Matin said this week it will take more time to convert Biman to a PLC.

Over 2,000 Biman staff have already opted to go for voluntary retirement as they consider their future will be uncertain after Biman is turned into a PLC.

At present Biman has a fleet of only 13 aircraft. Matin said new aircraft will be bought for the airlines after Biman's turning into a PLC.
