Macao celebrity hails Hong Kong's return to motherland
font size

Ma Man-kei, Macao-based vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), has hailed the return of Hong Kong to China as a successful demonstration of the "one country, two systems" principle.

Ma, in his article published Saturday on Macao Daily News, the leading local Chinese newspaper, said Hong Kong has become more prosperous since it returned to the motherland ten years ago.

Ma said the celebrations for the tenth anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland reminded him of late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping, who initiated the principle of "one country, two systems".

"Deng's political far-sight and courage guarantee the prosperity of today's Hong Kong," Ma said.

He said the principle of "one country, two systems" has provided the international community with experience in solving disputes peacefully.
