British police stepped up patrols and security measures on Monday around airports and railway stations all over the country after the failed terror attacks in London and Glasgow.
Police officers are exercising their powers of spot checking vehicles under the Terrorism Act, while authorities have advised the public to take public transportation to airports and train stations.
Five people were arrested over the weekend, but at least one suspect is still believed to be on the run. None of the suspects are of British origin, police said.
Britain remains on critical alert amid fears of possible further attacks. New Home Secretary Jacqui Smith told Sky News earlier, "We must remain vigilant at all times," but "we will not let this intimidate us."
The British government has put sufficient focus on anti-terrorism and is looking at ways of "tackling the ideology that recruits people to terrorism" and at further legislation, she added.
Smith will make a statement before the House of Commons in Parliament on Monday afternoon.
