'China's Steve Jobs' unveils new smartphones

People's Daily Online)  08:15, April 12, 2013

Xiaomi's new Mi-2A smartphone.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun unveils his firm's latest flagship smartphones, the Mi-2S and the Mi-2A, along with the latest MIUIV5 mobile phone system, at the Beijing International Convention Center on Tuesday.

It is understood that these Android smartphones are equipped with the latest technology in terms of processors, cameras, and screen quality.

If they look like iPhones, there's a reason. Jun tries to emulate Jobs as best he can, according to Business Insider, a U.S. business and technology news website.

Lei Jun said on Tuesday that his company sold a total of 7.19 million smarphones in 2012 and saw 12.65 billion yuan in revenue (some revenue 2 billion U.S. dollars).

Xiaomi's branch office in Taiwan and Hong Kong will open within two weeks, according to Lei.

Jun dresses like the late Steve Jobs, in jeans and a black top. He has created a fervent fan base for Xiaomi's moderately priced high-end smartphones by mimicking Apple Inc's marketing tactic of attaching an aura of exclusivity around its products, Reuters Melanie Lee writes about Jun.
