MOSCOW, April 16 (Xinhua) -- A Russian Briz-M booster has successfully placed a Canadian telecommunications satellite into its designated orbit, federal space agency Roscosmos said Tuesday.
"With accordance to the schedule, space vehicle Anik-G1 has separated from the Briz-M booster at 07:49 Moscow time (0349 GMT)," Roscosmos said in a statement on its website.
"The satellite has been placed on the orbit and control over the device has been delegated to the owner, Telesat Canada company," it added.
A Russian Proton-M rocket carrying the Canadian satellite blasted off at 22:36 Moscow time (1836 GMT) on Monday from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan.
The 5-tonne Anik-G1 is designed to provide telecommunications service for the Western hemisphere and Pacific.
