Beijing Mobile has begun recruiting users since last month to experience the more efficient 4G network. More than 4,000 citizens have got 4G terminal to start a six-month test experience.

4G-related devices start testing

Mr. Gu, who is one of the first users in this test run, got a white device half the size of an iPhone 5. This little white device is called MiFi. MiFi is commonly known as "Internet companion” and its function is to convert the 4G mobile network signal into wireless signal that can be universally used by iPad, laptops and other mobile terminals.

It is reported that three main 4G terminals are in the test, including 4G network card, 4G wireless gateways and MiFi.

More stable at high speed

When trying to use a mobile phone to download movies using the 4G network in Fenglian Square in Chaoyanmen area, it took only seven minutes to download a 300M movie.

What about online real-time playback?

The reporter selected a TV show on the mobile and it jumped to the video screen without any buffering and the video played smoothly with pause at all.

Not only fast, but steady

Compared to 2G and 3G network, 4G network is not just about speed. When surfing Internet on a phone using the 2G network on a running taxi, the web page cannot be opened. However, when switched to 4G network, the pictures in high definition pumped out immediately within a blink of an eye.

It turns out that 4G network has the quality to stay stable under the high-speed moving state, while 2G and 3G network would be affected under such circumstance. The 4G network would rarely be influenced by the speed of the terminal.

Though, when the reporter holds MiFi in the open-air environment of Oriental Plaza, the 4G signal reached full grid. Once it was brought in the plaza, the grid was reduced by half. Telecommunications industry analyst Fu Liang explained that the current TD-LTE band is above 2000MHz, which does not have strong power to penetrate. Especially in densely populated areas, the signal in the room will be affected if there is no further indoor optimization of signals.

Currently, Beijing has basically completed the mobile network construction within the planning area, basically covering third ring road in the north, east and west.
