Irtysh River, also called "Backflow River", is the only river in China that flows east to west. From its origins in the glaciers on the southwestern slopes of the Alta Mountains in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China, the Irtysh River flowers northwest through Habahe County into neighboring Kazakhstan and ends in the Arctic Ocean.
The river is 2969 kilometers long, of which 546 kilometers is in China, covering a basin area of 57,000 square kilometers. It has broad valleys and mighty water. The magnificent scenery along Irtysh River makes it enjoy a name of "golden mountains and silver waters".
