On April 15 the New York Times published a report headlined “China’s Actions in Hunt for Jet Are Seen as Hurting as Much as Helping”. The offensive report has damaged the international search effort and insulted the Chinese people at a critical point in the hunt for the missing Malaysian plane.

Since the plane was lost, the Chinese government has spared no effort in the search. Ignoring these efforts, the report simply blames China for a series of “missteps” that have “delayed the searching operation”, including criticism of satellite photos of debris and underwater signals. Other countries including Australia and France also published satellite photos of suspected debris that proved unrelated to the missing plane. Blaming China for “delaying the search operation” is both false and unfair.

Many netizens have criticized the New York Times article, pointing out its own absurdities. One netizen questions why those “helpful” countries haven’t found the plane themselves if they are better qualified to do so than China. Another asks why the reporter did not even mention Australia and France, and their satellite photos which were unrelated to the missing plane, instead reserving all his criticism for China.
