Italian Diego Paolini was disqualified from the "Good Luck Beijing" China Open Canoe/Kayak Slalom after the second run because his jacket did not pass the examination.
The decision was made by the chief judge, according to an official release here Thursday evening.
"Boat 55, K1M, 2nd Run was disqualified for the run (DSQ-R) because his life jacket didn't pass the examination," said the official announcement, falling short of giving any detailed information.
Diego, born on Nov. 24, 1982, is currently ranked 103 in the world's kayak slalom standings.
The competition rules of the International Canoe Federation require that each competitor must wear a safety helmet and a buoyancy jacket.
Only branded products from manufacturers, which guarantee quality of material, will be accepted.
The buoyancy jacket shall consist of non-absorbent floatation material equally distributed in the jacket and it must have buoyancy sufficient to float a 6 kg legalized lead weight or its equivalent in other metals.
