Members of the Forum for the Electoral Commissions of States of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will meet here from Aug. 20 to 23 to discuss electoral campaigns and freedom of speech, among others.
Under the aegis of the National Electoral Commission of Angola, the Ninth Conference of the SADC Electoral Commissions will focus on the issues of the media and elections.
Participants will discuss such topics as "the contribution of the press for the establishment of a climate leading to free and fair elections," "the personal commitment of national information organs in SADC countries and the media," "freedom of speech and electoral administration."
They will also debate the democratization of elections in Southern Africa, prowess and challenges using regulations, standards and principles and the impact of the access to information during the elections.
