The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will open a labor office in Nepal in the near future, a leading website THT Online reported on Monday.
The website quoted report from Gulf News as saying that the UAE expressed its willingness to open the office during the discussion on the sidelines of a recent signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on labor between the two countries.
A senior official of the UAE Labor Ministry said the ministry will entrust a private agency to open an office in Nepal.
"The agency will monitor and control the recruitment of Nepali workers. An official delegation from Nepal will visit the UAE every six months to evaluate the progress of the MoU," he said.
The UAE labor office in Nepal will help check operations of unscrupulous agents who cheat workers, said Mohan Krishna Shrestha, Charge d' affairs in Nepal Embassy.
The MoU signed last month by Ali Bin Abdullah Al Ka'abi, UAE's Minister of Labor, and Ramesh Lekhak, Nepali Minister of Labor and Transport, plans to establish a joint committee to oversee its implementation for four years.
Shrestha said that such regulations are essential as the UAE is the most favored destination of Nepali workers as the country is safe, and people are friendly and hospitable.
According to official estimates about 80,000 Nepalese are working in the UAE. Most of the Nepali workers are engaged in the construction sector.
