One of Zimbabwe's top sprinters Brian Dzingai found it tough in the men's 100m final at the Rieti IAAF Grand Prix in Italy on Sunday where he finished last, according to The Herald on Tuesday.

Dzingai, fresh from representing Zimbabwe at the recent World Championships in Osaka, Japan, finished Sunday's event in eighth and last place in 10.32 seconds.

The race was won by Jamaica's Asafa Powell in 9.78s. Powell had earlier in the day broke the world 100m record by clocking 9.74s when winning Heat Two. He beat his old mark of 9.77s set in Athens, Greece, in June 2005.

But there was no repeat performance by Powell in the final, which he won in 9.78s ahead of his fellow countryman Michael Frater (10.03s), and Norway's Jaysuma Saidy Ndure (10.10s).

The three sprinters just showed a clean pair of heels to the rest of the eight-man field, which included Dzingai who finished last.

Dzingai, who is now preparing for next August's Olympic Games in Beijing, China, qualified for the final after finishing fourth in Heat One in 10.26s.
