Zimbabwe's Kevin Ullyett and his Australian partner Paul Hanley are now ranked as the third-best men's doubles team in the world after reaching the semi-finals of the US Open tennis tournament last week, local media said on Tuesday.
According to the latest ATP Tour world doubles rankings released on Monday, Ullyett and Hanley moved one place up the ladder from fourth to third place with 580 points.
The Bryan twin brothers, Bob and Mike of the United States, are still ruling the roost at the top of the standings with 1,070 points while Mark Knowles of the Bahamas and Canada's Daniel Nestor are sitting in second place with 680 points, 100 ahead of the third-placed team of Ullyett and Hanley.
The Herald said Ullyett and Hanley did well to reach the semi-finals of the just-ended US Open at Flushing Meadows in New York where they fell 6-4, 6-2 to Lukas Dlouhy and Pavel Vizner of the Czech Republic last Thursday.
In the final at the weekend, Dlouhy and Vizner, who were the ninth seeds, were upset by No. 10 seeds Simon Aspelin of Sweden and Julian Knowle of Austria.
Meanwhile, another top Zimbabwean player Cara Black and her American partner Liezel Huber are still ranked as the top women's doubles team in the world despite their failure to win the US Open.
Pre-tournament favourites and winners of both the Australian Open and Wimbledon titles, Black and Huber made the earliest exit of the top seeds when they were bundled out by Maria Elena Camerin and Gisela Dulko in the second round.
But Black and Huber hung on to the top spot in the world doubles rankings with 5,750 points and are well ahead of the second-placed team of American Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur of Australia who have 3,628 points.
And in the world women's doubles rankings for individual players, Black is still ranked number one with 5,049 points followed by her partner Huber (4,785 points).
