Israeli jets launched an air strike in northern Gaza City on Friday on a car carrying some Islamic Jihad militants who Israel said to be rocket launchers.
Witnesses said that the Israeli planes fired at the car but missed its target, causing no casualties.
Media reports quoted a witness as saying that he saw a car stop suddenly and the passengers jump out just before the vehicle exploded, which was apparently caused by a missile fired from the Israeli jets.
The Israeli military confirmed the air strike, saying that the raid targeted rocket launchers.
An Islamic Jihad spokesman Abu Hamza told media that a car carrying a field commander of the armed group was hit by a missile, but the two passengers escaped unharmed.
Israel has launched frequent air strikes against Palestinian militants suspected of involvement in firing rockets at Israel, causing panic among the public.
On Thursday, two militants of the Islamic Jihad, which has been responsible for most recent rocket attacks on Israel, were lightly wounded when an Israeli airstrike targeted their car in the northern Gaza Strip.
