Motorola Inc announced it will start selling nine new cell phones in the fourth quarter, the company said to media.

The announcement on Thursday is a turnaround plan for the handset maker, which is plagued by sluggish sales.

Most prominent among the new phones is a luxury version of the Razr2, the latest successor to the once top-selling Razr model of cell phones.

Razr2 V8, retailing at 250 U. S. dollars to 300 dollars, is being boasted as a potential holiday gift with gold-plated accents, snakeskin texture, ultra-slim design and storage of up to 1,000 songs, among other features.

The Schaumburg, Ill.-based company also introduced seven new W-series phones - the W156, W160, W175, W180, W206, W213, and W377.

The W160, W180, W213 and W377 would also include FM radios.

Its W156, W175, W180, W206 and W213 models will include Motorola's CrystalTalk Technology, which automatically adjusts audio to ensure clear calls in a noisy environment.

The W-series phones which would sell at an affordable price point are "designed for consumers who are purchasing their first mobile phone, for those who simply want to talk and message on an easy-to-use phone or for those who are looking to upgrade a basic phone," as said by Stu Reed, president of Motorola Mobile Devices.
