To ensure the safety of passenger transport, the department of the transportation will perfect the hardware and strengthen security inspections by tightening security checks at important transportation hubs such as the airport, railway stations, long-distance bus terminal and the wharf. At present, the No. 1 subway line's stop - Shanghai Railway Station - has already installed advanced mechanisms, such as a security device and toxic gas detector.

"At present, Shanghai Railway Station has installed detection equipment. The security devices were operational during the Spring Festival travel season, as well as routine large luggage checks. Toxic gas detectors will be installed in the near future: once toxic gas appears and achieves a certain level of concentration, the detector will immediately set off the alarm," said one source.
