British Prime Minister Gordon Brown Monday in London hailed China's achievements and expressed his best wishes for China's future development.
Addressing a charity dinner party held by the British Labor Party, Brown said that during his first visit to China years ago, cheap labor was China's only existing international competitive edge then. In contrast, during his recent visit at the end of 2007, he was impressed by China's increasing attention to talent and education, which he thought affords a lesson to the British which merits attention.
When meeting with Bei Xuexian, chairman of the London-based Hua Xia Cultural Association, Brown said that cultural communication serves as a bridge to forge ties between China and Britain; and a channel to enhance the understanding and cooperation between the two countries.
He hoped the upcoming 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, as well as the 2012 Olympic Games to be held in London, will offer new momentum for further cooperation. He said he warmly welcomes the Beijing Olympic Torch Relay, scheduled to arrive in London on April 6; and he will travel to Beijing this summer for the Olympics.
