In 2008, the Ministry of Finance will earmark 27 billion yuan in special funds in support and promotion of energy efficiency and emissions reduction work. With the addition of 14.8 billion yuan from central financing into construction investment, a total of 41.8 billion yuan in central financing will support and promote energy efficiency and emissions reduction work in 2008.
From the 27 billion yuan, 7.5 billion will go towards ten energy-saving programs; 4 billion yuan will be invested in closing inefficient coal-fired power units and outmoded steel plants; while 5 billion yuan will be used to tackle environmental issues in major rivers and lakes.
