In order to guarantee cash services during the 2008 Olympic Sailing Competition, on June 1 all the ATM machines in this city in Shandong Province will begin accepting foreign currency cards to meet the needs of foreign tourists.

Qingdao, as the host city of the Olympic Sailing Competition, will welcome athletes and team officials from more than 70 countries and regions, as well as more domestic and foreign tourists. Just before the Olympic Sailing Competition begins, in addition to achieving an 80% acceptance rate of RMB and foreign currency cards among stores in commercial areas around the Olympic venues, 591 foreign currency exchange points will be set up in Qingdao, including 553 branches of banks designated for foreign exchange, to cover Qingdao's main commercial district and residential areas. The Bank of China is responsible for foreign currency exchange services at the Olympic venues and athletes' compound. The People's Bank of China Qingdao Central Branch will set up additional foreign currency exchange points in areas such as Olympic Games'important regions and businesses, along important tourism routes and at the airport and railway stations.

Every business, in the key areas that have been identified, will install POS machines that accept RMB and foreign currency cards.
