The Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau launched a green reward-based contest on April 7; and asked citizens to catch on film activities that violate environmental law. Once the reporting information is verified by an investigation, persons who recorded the activity can receive a reward of 100 to 300 yuan.
This year is the fifth year since the reward-based activity was first launched. Citizens have been actively participating, and the Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau has received a total of 19,143 reports. Through the verification of these reports, the Bureau has investigated and prosecuted more than 3,800 illegal activities; and has issued 312,900 yuan in rewards, said Du Shaozhong, vice director of the Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau.
