A number of advanced new energy vehicles, green energy, efficient energy savings and new environmental protection technologies, and new products will play an important role during the Beijing Olympic Games, according to statements made at a conference held by the State Council Information Office.

Minister of Science and Technology Wan Gang pointed out that over the past seven years the construction of the Hi-tech Olympics has seen many important results.

After the successful Olympic bid, the Ministry of Science and Technology and Beijing's relevant departments worked out an "Action Plan on the 2008 Hi-tech Olympic Games;" and planned to unveil technical research and technology applications.

At the same time, scientific and technological innovation has integrated the application of a number of green and energy-saving technologies. Wan Gang said that during the Olympic Games, 500 new energy cars will be put on Beijing roads, so that the traffic in the centre of the Olympic region will have "zero emissions" – this would be the first time in Olympic history.
