Beijing Subway Line 10, the Olympic Branch Line and Airport Line, will open successively. Mass transit railway publicity director Jia Peng said that during the Olympic Games, the flow of passenger traffic among Beijing's eight subway lines is expected to reach 4.3 to 4.5 million per day, with the maximum number of passengers to reach 5 million per day.

In order to cope with this pressure, the subway corporation will improve each line's transport capacity. Currently, 204 new cars are in place on Subway Line 1 and Line 2; and the minimum running interval of Subway Line 2 has been reduced to two and a half minutes through an upgrade in signal systems. The transport capacities of Line 1 and Line 2 can be increased by 4.9 percent and 30 percent respectively. The four-car train formations of the Batong Line will change to 6-car formations; and will increase the transport capacity by 50 percent. New cars will be added onto Line 5 and reduce the operating interval from four minutes to three minutes.

According to reports, Beijing's subways will aim to operate around-the-clock during the opening and closing days of the Olympic Games; and the operating hours will be extended on other days of the Games.
