The "Cross-Strait Exchange Center for Journalism and Communications Research" was unveiled on June 8 in Xiamen. Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung and other celebrities from home and abroad have sent congratulatory letters.

Ye Kedong, deputy director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said in his speech that under joint efforts made by the cross-strait press, the cross-strait news exchanges and cooperation field has been expanding with richer content and in various forms. By the end of 2007, a total of 15,000 Taiwan journalists had come to the mainland to make reports. Nearly 1,000 mainland journalists went to Taiwan for news coverage. He said that close cross-strait news exchange plays a positive and crucial role for enhancing mutual understanding between cross-strait compatriots; promoting cross-strait exchange in various areas; and promoting the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.

After the unveiling ceremony, a cross-strait news seminar was held.
