Two more African countries yesterday signed up to take part in the Shanghai 2010 World Expo.
Madagascar and the Central African Republic signed participation contracts to become the 43rd and 44th countries to join the global event.
The two will be part of a shared African pavilion where they will showcase their achievements in city planning and coordinated development.
The event's organizers said 205 countries, regions and international organizations have now confirmed their participation, breaking the record set at the 2000 event in Hanover, Germany.
Denis Roland Raoeliarijaona, commissioner-general of Madagascar for the Expo, said: "Madagascar will make its contribution to the Shanghai Expo theme of 'Better City, Better Life'."
The theme of Madagascar's exhibition will be "Live Naturally" and will showcase the independence and coexistence relations between cities and the countryside, he said.
He said he appreciated the assistance offered by Chinese government to involve less developed nations to the world event, which showed it cared for the development of Africa.
Expo organizers have promised to provide exhibition space free of charge to African nations.
Construction of the African pavilion, the largest the event's organizers will build for a participant, will begin at the end of this month.
Romain Pamo, Expo commissioner-general for the Central African Republic said the event will be an opportunity for countries to explore scientific development of urban areas.
