One major highlight of this year's railway summer vacation transportation plan, launched on June 15, is the flow of Olympic passengers. It has been forecasted that railway passenger flow during summer vacation time will show a substantial growth trend this year, and the daily average number of passengers will reached 4.57 million. Passenger flow during the Games will be mainly concentrated between Beijing and five Olympic co-hosting cities and other cities. On the route from Beijing to Tianjin, and Beijing to Shanghai, passenger flow will increase substantially.
The summer vacation transport season, from the July 1 to August 31 – a total of 62 days – coincides with the period of the Beijing Olympic Games. Relevant stations will open the special sales windows service for the Olympic Games. According to the transportation needs during the Olympic events, a portion of trains will make additional stops and time adjustment from July 1 to August 31.
According to the analysis, the passenger flow during summer vacation will be concentrated along the main routes and major tourist cities, scenic spots, and summer resorts. Along with the progressing reconstruction work after the Sichuan disaster, the passenger flew entering and exiting Sichuan will gradually increase.
