The fourth China Jilin Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo, one of the region's largest, raised the curtain here in the capital of northeast China's Jilin province yesterday.
The five-day event is jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, the State Council Office for the Northeast's Industrial Revival and the people's government of Jilin province to provide a forum for trade and common development in northeast Asia.
Wang Min, Party secretary of Jilin province, said more than 10,000 participants from 69 foreign countries will attend the fair.
The expo highlights commodity trade, investment talks and economic cooperation, including high-level forums and conferences.
Vice-Premier Wang Qishan formally opened the event with a keynote speech on cooperation between China and five northeast Asian countries.
"We organized indoor exhibition halls for equipment manufacturing, hi-tech, building materials and chemicals, food, medicine, textiles, sports products, services and one outdoor exhibition area," said Wang Fuyi, vice-director of the organizing committee of the expo.
A total of 2,000 exhibition stalls are in operation this year, among which 708 have been reserved by foreign businesses, he added.
Jilin province adjoins Russia to the east and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the south. It has vibrant trade with Japan, the Republic of Korea and Mongolia, said Chen Deming, minister of Commerce.
According to Wang Min, 3,317 of the 6,100 foreign participants and 73 of 116 visiting foreign business delegations are from northeast Asian countries.
Individual nations will be highlighted during business days at the expo to promote bilateral economic cooperation.
Local statistics show the province's gross domestic product (GDP) reached almost 361.5 billion yuan last year when it utilized $1.15 billion in foreign capital and its two-way foreign trade surpassed $6.5 billion.
