Statistics by the Immigration Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region show that within the first seven days following Chinese New Year's Eve (January 25), the total number of tourists visiting Hong Kong from Chinese mainland was about 512,100. The four-day travel peak from Chinese mainland to Hong Kong began on January 27, with over 80,000 visitors arriving each day. The number of visitors from Chinese mainland reached 89,700 on January 29.
The tourism industry in Hong Kong was initially concerned about a possible decline in the number of tourists from Chinese mainland during this year's Chinese New Year. In fact, observing the first six days of the Chinese New Year holiday (January 25-January 30), the number of visitors from Chinese mainland reached 423,300, a greater figure compared to the same period last year.
