The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) announced on April 13 that by the end of this March, the total amount of deposits by the bank's clients exceeded 8.9 trillion yuan (over 1.3 trillion USD), an increase of over 950 billion yuan from the beginning of this year. This figure surpasses all commercial banks in Europe, the US and Japan, enabling ICBC to be the commercial bank with the largest deposits worldwide.
"If deposits by business clients in the finance division are taken into account, the gross deposits will be even higher, amounting to 9.7825 trillion yuan (or 1.44 billion USD)," said a relevant person-in-charge with ICBC.
