Recently concluded was the first ever selection and review of "Masters of Traditional Chinese Medicine," jointly sponsored by China's Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, Ministry of Health and State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Through strict selection, careful review and verification performed by an expert team of judges, 30 veteran doctors of traditional Chinese medicine (ethnomedicine), including Fang Heqian, have been selected as "Masters of Traditional Chinese Medicine." Starting April 10, the list will be made public for five working days.

This is the first time the Chinese government has selected masters of traditional Chinese medicine at national-level since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Among those selected, the oldest is Qiu Peiran, born in January 1913 and a chief physician with the Shanghai University of Chinese Traditional Medicine and the youngest is Zhang Xuewen, born in October 1935 and a chief physician with the Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine. These doctors have all engaged in clinical work of traditional Chinese medicine or work concerning traditional Chinese medicine for over 55 years.

Reporters learned that following the completion of the public announcement, these "Masters of Traditional Chinese Medicine" will be granted medals and certificates and these 30 masters of traditional Chinese medicine will enjoy the treatments granted to provincial or ministerial-level model workers and advanced workers.
