A blood sample databank under the Chinese Marrow Donor Program (CMDP) was formally launched recently, enabling each voluntary donor to have a corresponding blood sample in the sample databank. The launch of the blood sample databank marks the establishment and implementation of the largest Chinese blood sample databank in the world.
Each volunteer wanting to join CMDP has to have 6 to 8 milliliters of his or her blood drawn for testing in efforts to determine its type of human leukocyte antigen and carry out quality control. While test data is entered into a database, a tube of blood sample is delivered to the sample databank for storage. Blood samples stored in the sample databank are mainly used for quality control and data comparison purposes.
Currently, CMDP blood sample databank has already collected over 700,000 blood samples from volunteers around the country.
