Sixty-five defence attaches with 54 foreign embassies to China on Thursday attended a briefing on security preparation by the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA)for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.
The briefing was organized by the Foreign Affairs Bureau of theChinese Defence Ministry to help foreign military officers gain better knowledge of the PLA's participation in security practices for the Beijing Olympic Games.
Tian Yixiang, director of the military bureau with the Beijing Olympic Games security work commanding center, said the PLA army, navy and air force shall all participate in security programs for the Olympic Games.
"It is international practice for military forces to participate in security efforts for Olympic Games," Tian said, adding that the PLA's shall mainly deal with non-traditional threats, particularly biochemical and nuclear terror attacks.
The Beijing Olympic Games is still facing complicated security situations, including rampant international terrorism, the "East Turkistan" terrorist organization and the Falun Gong cult, Tian said.
"The commanding organs have been formed. The selection of troops and the drafting of the training program have been completed. All training schemes are going on smoothly," Tian said.
