Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan met here Monday with Sadikov Najmaddin, chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.

Cao, also vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission and state councilor, said Chinese and Azerbaijani peoples have deep friendship and bilateral cooperation in trade, culture and education has been expanded.

China will work with Azerbaijan to conduct pragmatic cooperation based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, Cao said.

He said the military relations between the two countries have developed smoothly and the two armed forces have conducted fruitful cooperation in personnel training.

China is willing to promote bilateral military relations to a new height, Cao added.

Sadikov said Azerbaijan attaches importance to developing relations with China and he believed the visit will further strengthen bilateral friendly cooperation.

He also reaffirmed Azerbaijan's firm adherence to the one-Chinapolicy and peaceful unification drive.

Sadikov also held talks with Chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Liang Guanglie on Monday afternoon.

This is Sadikov's first-ever visit to China which has already taken him to China's financial hub Shanghai.
