China Tuesday donated anti- malaria drugs worth 1 million Chinese yuan (one U.S. dollar is about 7.61 yuan) to Pakistan. After a signing ceremony here at the health ministry of Pakistan, Chinese Ambassador Luo Zhaohui said the donation of the anti-malarial medicine was to express the friendly sentiment of the Chinese government and people to the Pakistani government and people, especially to those affected by flood in China's friendly neighbor.
Since last week, more than 200 people have lost their lives and some 200 others are missing in the southwestern Pakistani province of Balochistan and the southern Sindh province due to cyclone Yemyin, heavy rainfall and floods, which have left more than 1 million people homeless. Pakistani Health Minister Muhammad Naseer said that the medicine was a life saving drug for the poor patients of malaria in the disaster-stricken areas of Balochistan, Sindh, the North West Frontier Province and the southern part of the eastern Punjub province. China's timely donation shows that it is Pakistan's best friend in deed, he added. The medicine will be distributed free of cost through Pakistan's public health facilities.
