Officials from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Italy's Democratic Left party on Thursday agreed to enhance exchanges and further cooperation.

Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met with the Democratic Left leader Piero Fassino, whose party is the largest in the center-left government, in Beijing.

The two sides agreed that the CPC and the Democratic Left should aim to strengthen communication.

Fassino arrived in Beijing on Monday as part of the first ever high-level visit by the Party of European Socialists.
