He also said he hoped that Indonesia can play a positive role in promoting relations between China and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations). "I have emphasized sometimes that the fact that I chose Indonesia as one of destinations in my first official visit after I became Chinese foreign minister shows that we think much of Indonesia''s role in the region and in the world," Yang said at a press briefing after meeting with Susilo. "As we both are big developing countries in the world, we have a lot of common interests and should go on strengthening consultation, coordination and cooperation not only in the region but also in the world," he added. Yang said that Chinese President Hu Jintao and President Susilo agreed on setting up China-Indonesia strategic partnership relations in 2005. The agreement has paved the way for the two countries to develop their relations in the 21st century. The potential for the two sides'' cooperation is huge. During the meetings, Indonesian leaders also emphasized that Indonesia had strictly pursued the "one China" Policy, and that the policy would not change. Yang expressed appreciation of Indonesia''s position. The Chinese foreign minister arrived in Jakarta on Wednesday after visiting Mongolia and the Democratic People''s Republic of Korea.
