A circular issued by the provincial discipline commission said the officials had undermined public confidence and all discipline officials in the province were required to learn from the incident.

Last month, the slave labor scandal sparked a nationwide outcry after it was discovered that Shanxi brick kilns were illegally detaining and forcing people to work without pay. By June 22, 359 people, including 12 children, had been rescued from illegal kilns in the province and police had arrested 38 people. Police in Henan Province rescued 217 people, including 29 children.

Last Wednesday, five people went to trial in the Intermediate People''s Court of Linfen City on charges connected to the scandal.
