Special Advisor on Myanmar of the UN Secretary-General Ibrahim Gambari is visiting China from July 8 to 10 and has exchanged views with Chinese officials on current Myanmar situation, said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Qin Gang.

Qin made the remarks at a regular press conference on Tuesday.

He said, Gambari has discussed the situation in Myanmar and UN's mediation efforts with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo and Assistant Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai respectively over the past days.

Qin said China thinks that the situation in Myanmar does not pose any threat to regional or international peace and security, adding that the people of Myanmar should handle the affairs of their own.

Qin said China hoped its neighbor Myanmar could enjoy stability, economic development, national and social harmony.
China appreciates UN's mediation work on Myanmar, Qin added.
