The visiting Ecuadorian army chief on Tuesday pledged to continue the adherence to the one China policy during a meeting with a Chinese military leader.

Xu Caihou, vice-chairman of China's Central Military Commission, expressed appreciation for the remarks and hailed the relations between China and Ecuador at his meeting with Hector Hugo Camacho Pauta, chief of the Joint Command of the Ecuadorian Armed Forces,

Xu said Ecuador is an important country in Latin America, and has cooperated well with China in all areas since the two countries forged diplomatic ties in 1980.

Bilateral military relations have also maintained a good momentum of development, he said, adding "China would like to work with Ecuador to further cooperation and military exchanges."

Camacho expressed gratitude for China's long-term assistance towards Ecuador, hoping to cement relations between the two states and the two militaries.
