Chinese vice commerce vice minister Wei Jianguo arrived in Dakar Wednesday at the head of high-level delegation for a two-day official visit.
During his visit, Wei is scheduled to hold discussions with Mbaye Jacques Diop, chairman of Council of the Republic for Economic and Social Affairs (CRAES) on Thursday afternoon, before meeting with Senegalese Prime Minister Cheikh Hadjibou Soumare, on the sidelines of discussions on bilateral economic and commercial issues.
Another meeting, in which the two sides will sign several cooperation agreements, is also planned to be held with Senegalese foreign minister Cheikh Tidiane Gadio. In addition, the vice minister will also hold discussions with Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade Friday morning.
The value of trade between China and Senegal rose to more than 100 million U.S. dollars in 2006 and this is set to grow even further this year owing to the unrelenting efforts of the two countries, according to the economic and commercial counselor's office of the Chinese embassy in Senegal.
About 194 Senegalese products such as halieutics, agricultural products, minerals, chemicals, hides and skins, wood, cotton, textiles and clothing, ornaments and handicrafts are allowed into China on preferential terms, according to the same source.
In the partnership that the two countries are seeking to establish, Senegal has enormous potential in various domains such agriculture and agro-foodstuffs, fishing, telecommunications, information and communication technology, transport, textiles, energy and minerals.
