The second phase of the Egyptian Remote Education System, which is an aid program by the Chinese government, has been completed recently, an official of Egypt's educational department said Thursday.

Sayed Kasem Allah, General Manager of Egypt's Educational Mubarak City, which lies in the suburb of Cairo and is a training base for Egyptian teachers, said the project has finished the construction of the second phase with the aid of the Chinese government.

Sayed spoke highly of the efforts made by the Chinese side, particularly the aid provided unselfishly by the Chinese government and the technicians of China's ZTE Corporation participated in the project.

Li Chen, minister counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, said education sector is one of the most important aspects of the strategic cooperation between China and Egypt, describing the project as a milestone in the history of educational cooperation of the two sides.

In the future, China and Egypt will further enhance cooperation in the fields of education and telecommunication technology for education both bilaterally and within the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

The project, which is the biggest one in the Middle East and North Africa, provides remote training classes for teachers and students in primary and secondary schools in Egypt.

With the aid of the Chinese government, the first phase of the Egyptian Remote Education System has been put into use for five years since the establishment of the system in August 2002.
