Chinese special envoy, Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei on Monday attended the inauguration ceremony in honor of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM)'s new president, vice president and members of the 15th Congress, according to reports from the country's capital Palikir.

He respectively met President Emanuel Mori, Vice President Alik L. Alik, Parliament Speaker Isaac V. Figir and Secretary of the Department of External Affairs Lorin Robert.

During the meeting, He conveyed greetings of Chinese President Hu Jintao, top legislator Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao. He said that the Chinese government is willing to make efforts with the FSM to step up exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

The leaders of the FSM extended thanks for the Chinese leaders' greetings as well as the special envoy's attendance, and praised China's aid for the FSM's economic and social development.

They also said the FSM government attaches great importance to the Micronesia-China relationship and will adhere to the one-China policy, make efforts to develop long-term friendly and cooperative ties and usher in a new stage for the two countries' relations.
