Arab League (AL) Secretary General Amr Moussa on Monday hailed China's stance on the Middle East situation and its efforts to promote Mideast peace and negotiations among all sides concerned. Moussa made the remarks during his talks with visiting China's Special Envoy on the Middle East issue Sun Bigan at the AL headquarters here. He also expressed the hope that China would play a bigger role in advancing the Middle East peace process and the Arab peace initiative, which was first approved in 2002 and reactivated during an Arab summit in Riyadh late March. For his part, Sun elaborated China's stance and view on the latest developments of the Palestinian-Israeli situation, highlighting AL's efforts to boost the internal unity and stability among the Palestinians and restore the Palestinian- Israeli peace negotiations. It is of great importance that the Riyadh Arab summit reactivated the Arab peace initiative, which demonstrated the sincere will and political resolution of the Arab countries to solve the Palestinian-Israeli conflicts and achieve Mideast peace by means of negotiation, the Chinese diplomat said. The Arab peace initiative offers that all Arab countries recognize Israel on condition that Israel withdraws from all Arab territories it occupied in the 1967 six-day war, including East Jerusalem. Sun, who arrived here on Saturday for a three-day visit, also held talks on Sunday separately with Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs Hani Khallaf and AL Assistant Secretary General Ahmed Ben Hali. Egypt is the first stop of Sun's Middle East tour, which will also take him to Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian territories. Source: Xinhua
