China and Turkmenistan pledged to complete the construction of gas pipelines between the two countries as soon as possible, according to a joint statement signed on Tuesday. The joint statement was signed after talks between Chinese President Hu Jintao and President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov Tuesday afternoon. The joint statement said China and Turkmenistan will speed up negotiations on energy cooperation so as to push forward a comprehensive development of substantial cooperation in various fields including trade and energy. China and Turkmenistan signed an agreement in April 2006 on the construction of gas pipelines and the sale of gas from Turkmenistan to China during the China visit of then President of Turkmenistan Saparmurat Niyazov.
