The Philippines said on Thursday that there is no reason for Taiwan to apply for U.N. membership, as it is part of China.

Philippine Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo told Xinhua that the Philippines has been very clear from the very beginning that Taiwan is part of China in its "one-China policy," from which Manila has never wavered.

Romulo said the recent reject by the U.N. Secretary General of Taiwan's bid to apply for U.N. membership reflects the stand of the international community, including the Philippines, that there is no meaning for Taiwan to apply for U.N. membership.
