The government of Nepal has consistently followed the principled stand of "One China" policy and it is firmly committed to upholding this principle, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday.
In response to the query raised by the media persons on the recent application by the Taiwan Authorities for the membership of the United Nations, the spokesperson stated that Nepal firmly opposes the attempts by the Taiwan Authorities to push for joining the United Nations under the name of Taiwan as well as organizing a referendum on joining the United Nations to give purported credence to their application.
Such attempts by the Taiwan Authorities under any name or by any means would only lead towards destabilization of the region, the spokesperson stated.
The government of Nepal believes that peace and stability must be maintained in the Taiwan Straits to contribute to peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and international community at large, the Spokesperson added.
