Chinese army finishes first joint training with Thai troop

A special force unit of Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) finished a 13-day joint training course with their counterparts from the Thai army in south China's Guangzhou Military Command on Sunday.

The training course, dubbed "Shock Action 2007", was PLA's first joint training with an foreign army. It was co-directed by Chinese and Thai military commanders, according to Jia Xiaoning, an official with the Chinese Defence Ministry.

The two special force units finished on Sunday their last subjects of rescuing hostages and assaulting a base camp of an international drug ring.

During the 13 days, officers and soldiers of both Chinese and Thai forces were also trained on combating, forest survival, waterborne skills, shooting and special unit tactics, according to Jia.
