William Lacy Swing, United Nations special envoy and chief of the UN Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Friday visited Chinese peacekeepers at their Bukavu base.
Accompanied by Wu Zexian, Chinese ambassador to the DRC, Swing visited the Chinese military hospital as well as the engineering camp.
The envoy paid a glowing tribute to Chinese engineers for the outstanding work they have been carrying out in support of the reconstruction efforts that the UN is undertaking in the DRC.
In June 2006, China moved to extend the mandate of its 218 military personnel serving with the UN peacekeeping mission in the DRC.
