Chinese President Hu Jintao met his Tajiki counterpart Emomali Rakhmon on Wednesday and praised the achievement in bilateral cooperation since the two countries signed a good-neighborliness treaty at the beginning of this year.
Hu said the treaty ushered in a new era in the development of bilateral ties and that over the past half a year, both countries have earnestly implemented various consensus reached by both sides and have scored new achievement in their cooperation in a number of fields including economy and trade, transport, security and culture.
Both sides have also supported each other in regional and international affairs, coordinated more closely, and have contributed to regional stability and development, Hu added.
For his part, Rakhmon said the good-neighborliness treaty is "of historic significance" to bilateral ties and since its signing, bilateral relations have developed smoothly and both sides have conducted highly effective cooperation in international affairs and within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
He said that Tajikistan will honor the spirit of the treaty and strive to push forward the all-around development of bilateral ties.
Both leaders, who are here to attend attend the annual summit of the SCO, also pledged to enhance bilateral cooperation in the area of economy and trade.
Hosted by Kyrgyzstan, this year's SCO summit is slated for Thursday in Bishkek, the Kyrgyz capital city.
Besides China, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, the SCO, a regional organization founded in June of 2001, also groups Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. It now has Mongolia, Iran, India and Pakistan as observers.
Commenting on the group's development, Hu said the SCO has seen good momentum of development and has become an important geo-political force in Eurasia.
He said the organization has played an important role in promoting regional security and development, and in maintaining the common interests of its member states, which makes it faced with good opportunities for future development.
He urged all relevant parties to take effective measures to advance their political, security, economic and people-to-people cooperation so as to bring more benefit to the people of all its member states.
Hu also said China is ready to enhance anti-terror cooperation with Tajikistan within both bilateral framework and the framework of the SCO.
He also hoped that both countries would deepen anti-drug cooperation to safeguard peace and stability in both countries and the region at large.
Rakhmon said Tajikistan is willing to reinforce cooperation with China and other SCO members to prevent the deterioration of the security situation in the region and safeguard the security interests of all SCO members.
