German Chancellor Angela Merkel will pay a visit China from Aug. 26 to 29, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu on Tuesday.
This is Merkel's second China tour since she took the post of German chancellor.
During her four-day official visit, Merkel will attend the opening ceremony of a series of cultural activities which will be held in major Chinese cities including Nanjing, Guangzhou and Chengdu, said German ambassador to China Volker Stanzel on Monday.
These activities is to mark the 35th anniversary of Germany-China diplomatic ties, Stanzel said.
Stanzel said he hoped to present a modern, open Germany through these activities so as to attract more Chinese tourists and scholars to visit his country.
Merkel's visit is important as it comes at a climax of the development of German-Chinese relations, he said.
